Privacy Policy
Last updated 22 October 2026
In short. No accounts, no ads, no trackers. Our apps never tell us what you do in them. Camera, microphone and sensor features run on your Mac and nothing leaves it. Payments and license keys are handled by Dodo Payments. Apps go online only to activate and re-check your key (about weekly) and to check for updates.
1. Who we are
MegaMac (megamac.app and the MegaMac apps) is run by Shreyas Garehatti Sridhara, a sole proprietor, of Sri Krupa, 3rd Cross, 2nd Phase, Davalagiri Badavane, Chitradurga, Karnataka 577501, India. We are the controller (in India, the "Data Fiduciary") of the personal data described here. We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer. Contact: privacy@megamac.app.
Dodo Payments is the merchant of record for purchases and an independent controller for the payment and licensing data it collects. Its own privacy policy applies to that data.
2. What we never collect
- What you do in our apps: your sounds, recordings, imported files, settings, triggers or how often they fire.
- Camera images, microphone audio, motion or sensor readings.
- Your Mac's serial number or raw hardware identifiers.
- Your contacts, location, browsing history or files.
- Anything for advertising. We don't sell, rent or share personal data for ads.
3. What we handle, and why
Visiting the website
- Server logs: IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. Kept by our hosting provider for security and to keep the site running (our legitimate interest), for its standard log period (typically 30 days or less).
- Your bag: the apps in your bag are saved in your browser's local storage so they're there when you come back, along with small preferences such as whether Ponky, our mascot, is shown. This stays in your browser, never reaches us, and is strictly necessary for features you use. Clear it by emptying the bag or clearing site data.
- Attribution: if you arrive from a link with campaign tags (such as utm_source) or a reel ID, those tags and the page you bought from are attached to your order, so we know which videos work. Nothing else about your browsing is recorded.
- No analytics or advertising cookies are used today. If we add analytics, we'll update this policy first and ask for consent where the law requires it.
Buying
Checkout is provided by Dodo Payments inside our page. Dodo collects your name, email, billing country and address, and payment details, to take payment, calculate tax, prevent fraud and send receipts. We never see your full card details.
Dodo shares with us what we need to deliver and support your order: your name, email, country, what you bought, the amount, your license keys and the order ID. We use it to deliver your apps, help when you contact us, handle refunds and chargebacks, and keep records required by tax and accounting law. Our legal bases are the contract with you and our legal obligations.
The order also records which version of the delivery notice was shown next to the Pay button, and when, as evidence of your request for immediate delivery.
Using the apps
- License activation and checks. When you activate a key, and about once a week after that, the app sends your license key and a device label to Dodo Payments' licensing service. The label is a code calculated on your Mac; it doesn't reveal your serial number, hardware identifiers or your Mac's name. Your IP address is visible to that service as part of any internet connection. This is needed to provide the license you bought (the contract with you).
- Update checks. Apps ask our update server whether a new version exists, using the Sparkle framework. This sends your IP address, the app's name and version, and your macOS version. System profiling is off. Logs are kept for 30 days or less.
- Everything else stays on your Mac.
On-device features
- Camera (for example in Caught in 4K): images are analysed in memory on your Mac to detect a face looking down. No image is stored or sent anywhere, and no one is identified. If you turn on and save a mugshot, it's saved only where you choose.
- Microphone: used only while you record a sound yourself. The recording is saved in the app's folder on your Mac.
- Motion sensor, trackpad, power, USB and lid events: read on your Mac to trigger sounds. Nothing is recorded or sent.
- Your files and backups: sounds, recordings and saved images live in your Mac's Library or a folder you choose. Your own backups (such as Time Machine or iCloud Drive) may copy them; that's between you and your backup provider.
- To delete everything an app has stored, delete the app and its folder in ~/Library/Application Support.
Emails with us
If you email us, we use your email address and message to reply and to keep a record of support (our legitimate interest, or the contract if it's about an order). We keep support emails for up to 2 years after our last contact. We don't send marketing emails.
Notify me
If we offer a "Notify me" signup, it's run by an email provider named on the signup form. You'll be asked to confirm your address (double opt-in), you must be 16 or older, and you can unsubscribe from any email. We use your address only to tell you about the app you asked about.
4. Who receives data
- Dodo Payments: payments, tax, invoices, license keys and license checks.
- Our hosting provider (website and update server): server logs.
- Our email provider: support emails, and signups if you choose to join.
- Professional advisers and authorities, only where needed to enforce our rights or required by law.
- A successor, if MegaMac is ever transferred, under this policy's terms.
We don't sell or share personal data for advertising.
5. International transfers
We're based in India, and our providers may process data in other countries, including the United States and the European Union. Where data from the EU, UK or another region with transfer rules leaves that region, we rely on safeguards the law recognises, such as adequacy decisions or the standard contractual clauses our providers offer.
6. How long we keep it
- Order records: as long as tax and accounting law requires (up to 8 years).
- License data: for the life of your license, then deleted or anonymised once no longer needed for legal claims.
- Support emails: up to 2 years after our last contact.
- Website and update logs: 30 days or less.
- Data on your Mac: until you delete it.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the EU and UK GDPR, you can ask to:
- access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy;
- correct or complete it;
- delete it, where we don't need to keep it by law;
- restrict or object to how we use it, including uses based on legitimate interest;
- take it to another service (portability);
- withdraw consent where we rely on consent;
- nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become unable to (India).
Write to privacy@megamac.app. We may ask you to confirm you own the order email. We reply within one month, or tell you why it will take longer. Because we hold so little, we often can't link data to you without your order email; we'll say so honestly. For data held by Dodo Payments, you can also contact Dodo directly.
United States. We don't sell or share personal information, or use it for targeted advertising, as those terms are defined in US state privacy laws. We don't use tracking technologies, so there are no Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals to act on.
8. Grievances and complaints (India and elsewhere)
Our grievance officer is Shreyas Garehatti Sridhara, at privacy@megamac.app or the postal address in section 1. We acknowledge a grievance within 48 hours and resolve it within 30 days.
If you're not satisfied, you can complain to your data protection authority: in India, the Data Protection Board of India; in the EU, the authority in your country; in the UK, the ICO.
9. Age
MegaMac is not for anyone under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you believe a child under 16 has bought from us, contact us and we'll delete what we hold about them.
10. Security
We keep data to the minimum, use reputable providers, encrypt connections and limit who can access orders. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects you, we'll tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
11. Changes
We'll update this policy when how we handle data changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. For material changes we'll post a notice on the website at least 30 days before they take effect, and ask for consent where the law requires it.
